RHETT KLEINE

Text and Photographic Storyteller

Rhett is a writer and photographer. Having completed a bachelors in photography in 2021 at QCA Griffith and having more recently finished his honours thesis at UQ. In 2020 he acted as assistant managing editor for The Argus before coming on for the founding of the quarterly newsletter MiddleGround. In 2021 he was awarded the Ossie Student Award for Best Text Based Story (over 750 words.)

Throughout 2019 Rhett worked across India, documenting stories for NGO, 'The Water Story'. From Nomads in the frozen Himalaya in the North, to indigenous fishermen along its western coastline, and the interconnections of religious festivals in the south.

Back home, Rhett has documented stories during lockdown, including how the illicit drug trade was affected and adjusted to the Covid induced lockdowns. His honours thesis was on the psychopolitical underpinnings of 'Post-Truth' and how Journalism can respond to the information phenomena.

His work aims to strike a deeper chord, telling the stories of individuals and tying them into national and global stories - pairing contextual information with a dedication to invoking empathy. Challenging western, neoliberal concepts of self and whole by telling stories that above all, remind us of our shared humanity. Often exploring the fellowships of love, loss and growth we can all at times belong to.

Rhett currently works as a teacher aide
